The play-within-a-play, and subsequent film, depicts a group of addicts brought together in the pad of a dope dealer by a movie producer who is filming a documentary. As the production unfolds, the junkies drift about a loft waiting for Cowboy, their “Connection”, as four jazz musicians on stage, Freddie Redd among them, provide a chilling counterpoint to the happening.
